The Dallas Mavericks had a disappointing 2022/23 season, finishing with a 38-44 record and missing out on the playoffs. Despite adding Kyrie Irving to play alongside Luka Doncic, the team fell short. To address their roster needs, the Mavericks decided to bring back Seth Curry, who had previously played for them. Curry signed a two-year, $8 million contract after a year with the Brooklyn Nets.

J.J. Redick, in his podcast “The Old Man & the Three,” praised the signing of Curry as one of the top under-the-radar moves of the offseason. Redick acknowledged Curry’s status as the best three-point shooter in NBA history in terms of percentage. Despite undergoing ankle surgery and missing part of the previous season, Curry had a productive year with the Sixers, averaging 15.0 points and 3.4 assists.

Redick recognized the challenges Curry faced with his ankle injury but praised his efficiency as a three-point shooter. Despite the setback, Curry shot 40.5 percent from three last season. Redick emphasized the importance of Curry’s shooting skills in the Mavericks’ offense, which primarily revolves around pick and rolls and isolations.

According to Redick, Curry’s ability to spot up and move without the ball will contribute to the team’s success. While it is uncertain whether Curry will start, Redick believes he will be a valuable asset to the team. In addition, Redick mentioned that during the Mavericks’ run to the Western Conference finals two seasons ago, their success was built on switchable defenders and shooting. Hiring Curry is a step towards recapturing that formula.
