A Lakers Summer League player criticized how the team treated Bronny James.
The anonymous player felt Bronny got special treatment, which hurt team chemistry. “I mean, he was treated as someone apart, not like all of us, and that is very annoying as we didnโt feel any chemistry in this group of players,โ the player said. โI ended up being very frustrated because I was never put in the best situation, or even put in some plays or game plans because they wanted Bronny to show his skills and shine.โ
Bronny was picked 55th in the 2024 NBA Draft and signed a four-year deal worth $7.9 million with the Lakers. The same player added, โIf you talk to any other player that was part of the roster of the California Classic and the Summer League, most of them would tell you the same thing.โ He mentioned visible tensions among players who just wanted to move on with their careers.
Bronny’s Performance
Bronnyโs stats were average during his games. In two California Classic games, he averaged 3.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting poorly from both field (25%) and three-point range (25%). In Las Vegas Summer League games, he slightly improved with averages of 8.7 points but still struggled with shooting percentages.
Fans might think it’s hard for young players to shine when there’s so much focus on one person.
Another comment from the anonymous player claimed Bronny isn’t ready for NBA-level play yet: โHe is not ready for all this, and he isnโt ready for the NBA in my opinion.โ Last year Bronny had a health scare but recovered fully to play college ball at USC where his performance was modest too.
LeBron aims to make history by playing alongside his son next season since no father-son duo has ever played together or against each other in NBA history.
