Veteran guard Bruce Brown had surgery on his right knee.
Recovery Timeline:
Brown’s surgery means he’ll be out for at least three weeks before doctors check him again. This timeline suggests he will miss most, if not all, of training camp and preseason games. By October 11, they’ll reevaluate him, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be ready to play yet. The Raptors have their training camp in Montreal from October 1-5 and kick off the preseason against Washington on October 6. Their preseason wraps up on October 18.
Injury Background:
Josh Lewenberg from TSN.ca mentioned that Brown has been struggling with this knee injury for almost a year. He hoped resting over the summer would help, but it didn’t work out. Brown told Lindsay Dunn from CityNews Toronto in April that the injury was “very frustrating.” He said, “It’s been tough… I really couldn’t bend my knee much; I played on one leg the entire time.”
Career Moves:
After helping the Nuggets win their championship in the 2022-23 season, Brown became a free agent and signed a two-year deal worth $45M with the Pacers. However, Indiana traded him to Toronto in January as part of a deal for Pascal Siakam.
Fans are really hoping he recovers soon.
Last season, Brown played 67 games (starting in 44) for both the Pacers and Raptors. He averaged 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game while shooting .478/.323/.824. Known as a solid defender who can fit well with ball-dominant players on offense, he’s quite versatile.
Future Prospects:
The Raptors picked up their $23M team option on Brown’s contract at the end of June despite trade rumors surrounding him since his arrival in Toronto. At age 28, he will become a free agent again next summer.
