Southeast Division Pre-Camp Roster Snapshot

Hoops Rumors is evaluating every NBA team’s roster to see who still needs to make moves before training camp starts.

This series gives a snapshot of each team’s current roster, but won’t be updated with future signings or trades. To keep track of open spots, check out our roster counts page.

We’re focusing on the Southeast Division today. Let’s get started!

Atlanta Hawks:

  • Guaranteed Contracts (15 players): Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kobe Bufkin, Clint Capela, Dyson Daniels, Mouhamed Gueye, De’Andre Hunter, Jalen Johnson, Vit Krejci, Garrison Mathews, Larry Nance Jr., Onyeka Okongwu, Zaccharie Risacher, David Roddy, Trae Young, Cody Zeller
  • Exhibit 10 Contract: Kevon Harris
  • Two-Way Contracts (3 players): Dominick Barlow, Seth Lundy, Keaton Wallace
  • Unsigned Draft Pick: Nikola Djurisic

Some non-essential players like Zeller and Roddy are on the roster due to trade deals. Waiving them for new minimum-salary players doesn’t make sense as it would push the team into tax territory.

More Exhibit 10 signees might come in to fill out the College Park Skyhawks’ roster. The big question is what happens with Djurisic after his foot surgery. He might stay overseas as a draft-and-stash prospect or start with their G League affiliate.

Fans think Djurisic will join the G League first.

Charlotte Hornets:

  • Guaranteed Contracts (13 players): LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, Seth Curry, Josh Green, Tre Mann, Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic, Brandon Miller; Nick Richards; Tidjane Salaun; Nick Smith Jr.; Grant Williams; Mark Williams
  • Non-guaranteed Contract: Taj Gibson (partial guarantee)
  • Exhibit 10 Contracts (4 players): Marcus Garrett; Keyontae Johnson; Caleb McConnell; Joel Soriano
  • Two-Way Contracts (2 players): Moussa Diabate; KJ Simpson
  • Reported Agreements (2 players): Raequan Battle (Exhibit 10); Harry Giles

Gibson is likely making the opening night roster but there’s still an open spot on the projected 15-man standard roster. Charlotte could add another player since they are well below the luxury tax line.

There are many free agents available who could fit in Charlotte. Some camp invitees might also compete for that spot or a two-way slot alongside Diabate and Simpson.

Giles has too many years of NBA service for a two-way deal so he’s a candidate for a standard contract.

Miami Heat:

  • Guaranteed Contracts (14 players): Bam Adebayo; Thomas Bryant; Alec Burks; Jimmy Butler; Tyler Herro; Haywood Highsmith; Jaime Jaquez Jr.; Nikola Jovic; Pelle Larsson; Kevin Love; Josh Richardson; Duncan Robinson: Terry Rozier: Kel’el Ware
  • Exhibit 10 Contracts (2 players): Zyon Pullin: Isaiah Stevens
  • Two-Way Contracts (3 Players): Josh Christopher: Keshad Johnson: Dru Smith
  • Reported Agreement: Nassir Little

Reports say Heat don’t want a full 15-man roster because it pushes their salary above the second tax apron. But they agreed with Little anyway. His contract may be non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed so they can waive him later if needed.

Teams above the second apron can’t aggregate salaries in trades unless they drop below it first. So even if slightly above by $1M and then shed $3M in salary through trade aggregation—it’d be allowed

The two-way slots are also worth watching as Stevens and Pullin could earn conversions with strong performances in camp and preseason.

Orlando Magic:

  • Guaranteed Standard Contracts(15 Players): Cole Anthony: Paolo Banchero:Goga Bitadze :Anthony Black : Kentavious Caldwell-Pope : Wendell Carter : Tristan Da Silva : Gary Harris : Caleb Houstan :Jett Howard : Jonathan Isaac:Cory Joseph:Jalen Suggs: Franz Wagner:Moritiz Wagner
