Sheryl Swoopes continues to downplay Caitlin Clark’s achievements.
Comments on Clark’s College Success:
Swoopes, a four-time WNBA champion and three-time MVP, stirred up controversy in February with her remarks about Clark. She dismissed Clark’s college accomplishments at Iowa.
Even now, at 53 years old, Swoopes stands by her opinion.
Discussion on “Gil’s Arena”:
During an appearance on “Gil’s Arena,” hosted by Gilbert Arenas, Swoopes elaborated on why she doesn’t see Clark’s rookie season with the Indiana Fever as impressive. "Those are helluva numbers. But to me, that’s not dominating," she said.
Comparison with A’ja Wilson:
Swoopes compares Clark unfavorably to A’ja Wilson. On Sunday, Wilson surpassed the 1,000-point mark for the season and leads the league with 27 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
Clark averages 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game. Despite leading the league in assists and three-pointers per game (3.1), it still doesn’t impress Swoopes.
Fans think these stats are pretty amazing!
Swoopes does not consider Caitlin Clark’s 19.5 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 8.4 APG this season to be “dominant”
She is the only player in WNBA history to average those numbers or better
