The Miami Heat have had a quiet summer, only adding Alec Burks to Erik Spoelstra’s team.
Changes in the Roster:
Caleb Martin left the team after playing a key role in their 2023 NBA Finals run. This follows the previous departures of Max Strus and Gabe Vincent. The Heat have been thin at the guard position, which led them to trade for Terry Rozier on February 6. Rozier can play both on-ball and off-ball, making him a good fit next to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
Guard Position Concerns:
Patrick Beverley discussed Miami’s guard situation on “The Pat Bev Podcast.” He believes Rozier could be the solution but isn’t sure yet. “The point-guard play is the problem,” Beverley said. “You need another guard who can score 10 to 14 points a game.”
Pat Bev defends Tyler Herro
“Anytime it's a big game, Tyler Herro plays well. Anytime they say Tyler Herro is going through a shoot slump, he comes out on TV and he plays well. Tyler Herro isn't the problem.”

Tyler Herro’s Role:
Beverley defended Tyler Herro, saying he performs well in big games and isn’t the problem for Miami.
Fans think Herro is underrated sometimes.
Shooting and Offense Strategy:
The Heat lack elite shooters off the bench, so they aren’t expected to focus on drive-and-kick plays. Last season, they ranked 16th in drives per game and 18th the season before. Instead, Spoelstra needs guards who can create shots off the dribble and help Butler by setting screens and cutting effectively.
If Rozier stays healthy and overcomes his neck issues, he could add energy to Spoelstra’s lineup. Burks is also seen as a smart addition due to his veteran status.
However, for any real success this season, Miami must maximize their guards’ potential despite not having top-tier floor spacing. Spoelstra has quite a challenge ahead!
