The Brooklyn Nets have made a surprising move in the latest round of NBA rumors by waiving forward Darius Bazley. Bazley, who joined the team last month on a one-year contract, had shown promise during the preseason, shooting an impressive 42.9% from beyond the arc. However, the Nets have decided to part ways with the 23-year-old, and he is now expected to attract interest as a free agent.

Bazley’s journey in the NBA has been a bit unconventional. He was initially selected by the Utah Jazz with the 23rd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft but was quickly traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and then to the Oklahoma City Thunder. During his time with the Thunder, Bazley made 117 starts in 185 appearances, averaging 10 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Last season, Bazley had a solid performance, averaging 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 43 appearances with the Thunder. He even had a standout game against the Chicago Bulls, scoring a season-high 17 points on an impressive 77.8% shooting from the floor. However, the Thunder ultimately traded him to the Phoenix Suns in February, and the Suns declined to exercise his qualifying offer for the 2023-24 season.

Despite Bazley’s departure, the Nets are still looking to finalize their regular-season roster. They are expected to sign Harry Giles and Trendon Watford to complete the team’s lineup, with two spots available on the 15-man roster. With Bazley’s release, the Nets now have a total of 19 players under contract, with Armoni Brooks and Jalen Wilson occupying two of the team’s three two-way slots.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Bazley as he enters free agency. His solid performance in the preseason and his previous NBA experience could make him an attractive option for teams in need of young talent. As for the Nets, with their roster nearly complete, they will be looking to solidify their chances of winning the 2024 championship, although they currently hold the 20th-ranked odds, according to NBA betting sites.
