Mavericks & TEGNA Sign Multi-Year TV Deal

Alright, Mavs fans, buckle up – there’s some big news coming out of Dallas!

New TV Deal: Mavericks and TEGNA Team Up

So, the Dallas Mavericks just inked a multi-year deal with TEGNA, and it’s a game-changer. Starting this season, if you’re in Texas, you can catch Mavs games for free on over-the-air TV. That’s right, no more scrambling for subscriptions or sketchy streams. This partnership means about 10 million Texans will get to see Luka and the gang do their thing without any hassle.

Bye-Bye Bally Sports, Hello TEGNA!

This move comes hot on the heels of the Mavs parting ways with Bally Sports Southwest. Just two weeks after that split, they’ve hooked up with TEGNA, which owns a whopping 64 TV stations across the U.S. Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall couldn’t be happier. “The most exciting part is that more fans will be able to watch our games, for free,” she said. And honestly, who can argue with that? More eyeballs on the Mavs is always a win.

Check out the official tweet from the Mavs:

TEGNA Takes Over: 70 Games on Channel 29

Get ready to set your DVRs, folks. TEGNA’s KMPX in Dallas-Fort Worth (Channel 29) will broadcast at least 70 Mavs games this season. And for those of you flipping channels, 15 of these games will also air on WFAA-TV (Channel 8). This isn’t TEGNA’s first rodeo with the Mavs either. They stepped in last season when Diamond Sports went belly-up, picking up 10 games. So, it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing.

Speaking of trades, did you catch that wild Curry rumor? Anyway, back to the Mavs…

More Mavs in More Places

But wait, there’s more! Mavs games will also be broadcast on TEGNA stations in Abilene, Midland-Odessa, San Angelo, Tyler, and Waco. Plus, there’s talk of adding even more Texas markets soon. “We are looking forward to giving Dallas Mavericks fans every opportunity possible to watch our exciting team build on the momentum of its incredible run to the NBA Finals last season,” said Mavs governor Patrick Dumont. And honestly, in my opinion, this is a huge win for the fanbase.

Advertising and Sponsorships: WFAA and TEGNA Lead the Charge

On the business side of things, WFAA and TEGNA will handle all the local and regional advertising and sponsorship sales for these broadcasts. It’s a smart move, ensuring that the Mavs’ brand gets maximum exposure. “Our new agreement with TEGNA helps meaningfully deliver on that goal by broadcasting more games to more local homes than in any period in franchise history,” Dumont added.

So, what do you think, Mavs fans? Is this the boost we need to make another deep playoff run? Let me know your thoughts!
