Mark Cuban Questions LeBron James as NBA Owner

LeBron James is planning to bid for an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas.

LeBron’s Ambitious Plan:

LeBron wants to own a piece of the new NBA team expected in Las Vegas soon. If he succeeds, he’ll join other legends like Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas, Dwyane Wade, and Grant Hill who have stakes in NBA teams. Jordan, though great on the court, didn’t do well as an owner. His Hornets struggled with a 423-600 record over 13 years and made only three playoff appearances without winning any series.

Challenges of Ownership:

So, can LeBron do better? Mark Cuban thinks it will be tough. On the “Club Shay Shay” podcast (https://x.com/ClubShayShay/status/1839499012250149153), Cuban explained why iconic players often struggle as owners or decision-makers. “It’s going to be a lot harder for a player,” Cuban said. He noted that players have a specific mindset that’s hard to change when they become owners or executives.

Role Players vs. Superstars:

Cuban pointed out that role players are usually more successful in these roles because they understand how to fit pieces together better than superstars like Jordan or LeBron. For example, James Jones with the Suns and Tayshaun Prince with the Grizzlies were role players who transitioned well into executive roles. Jerry West is one rare exception who thrived both as a superstar player and an executive.

Fans hope LeBron can break this trend and succeed where others haven’t.

NBA Expansion Timeline:

Insiders say the NBA aims to introduce two new teams by the 2027-28 season—one in Las Vegas and another in Seattle—but there’s no official timeline yet.

It’s exciting to think about what could happen next!
