According to several NBA betting sites, the Suns have the seventh-shortest odds to win this season’s championship. Interestingly, better odds are being shown for the Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder in the West.

A tweet from celebrated Durant’s achievement. “Kevin Durant is the first Phoenix Sun to score 40 POINTS with ZERO Free Throw attempts!” it read. The tweet also highlighted Durant’s other stats from the game.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle had a few words about Durant’s performance. “He’s a very unusual problem,” he said. He acknowledged their efforts to counter Durant but praised Durant’s ability to “rise up off the dribble and get complete clearance.”

This game marked Durant’s third 40-point game of the season. The last time he closed out a game without attempting a free throw was during the Brooklyn Nets‘ 112-98 victory against the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 23, 2022.

The NBA record for most points scored in a single game with zero free throw attempts is held by Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray. In a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 19, 2021, he scored a career-high 50 points.

Durant’s shooting from the 3-point range has been exceptional this season, with a career-best of 47%. This ranks him fourth in the NBA this season.
