‣ White played for the Grand Rapids Gold, the Denver Nuggets‘ G League affiliate, last season.
‣ The Mavericks hold the 10th-shortest odds to win the 2024 championship.

Jack White, a 26-year-old small forward, has been selected as the No.1 overall pick by the Texas Legends in the 2023 NBA G League Draft. Despite going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft after his time at Duke University, White’s talent has been recognized by the Legends, who are the G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. This will be White’s second G League team, as he played for the Grand Rapids Gold, the Denver Nuggets’ G League affiliate, in the previous season.

The Mavericks, who hold the 10th-shortest odds to win the 2024 championship according to several NBA betting sites, have made a promising acquisition in White. However, the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Clippers are favored with better odds.

White, who hails from Traralgon, Australia, has had an impressive journey in the basketball world. He played for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra and received offers from multiple NCAA Division I schools. In 2016, he was recruited by the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL) as an injury replacement. During his time at Duke University, White primarily served as a bench player, making only 10 starts in 103 games. Despite this, he averaged 2.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 13.6 minutes per game with a shooting percentage of 38.4% across four NCAA seasons.

With Duke, White showcased his potential during his junior 2018-19 season, recording career highs in points, rebounds, blocks, and minutes per game. He finished top 15 in blocks and ranked in the top 10 in defensive rating and block percentage.

White’s professional career took an interesting turn when he signed with the NBL’s Melbourne United in 2020. In the 2020-21 NBL season, he displayed his skills, averaging 9.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 49.4% from the field.

After signing a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets in July 2022, White achieved the pinnacle of success by winning an NBA championship in the 2023 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. His remarkable performance continued in the G League last season, where he averaged 20.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists with impressive shooting percentages.

Although White signed a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder in July, he was later waived during training camp. However, his talent and potential have not gone unnoticed, and his selection as the No. 1 overall pick by the Texas Legends in the 2023 NBA G League Draft indicates a bright future ahead for this skilled forward.
