Wow, Derrick Rose’s journey just took another wild turn!
Grizzlies and D-Rose: A Short-Lived Reunion
So, the Memphis Grizzlies decided to part ways with Derrick Rose. According to Shams Charania from The Athletic, they waived the veteran point guard. But here’s the kicker—ESPN reports that Rose himself requested the release. Seems like the man has his own plans.
Rose, who’s about to hit 36 on October 4th, had one more year left on his two-year, $6.6 million deal with Memphis. He managed to play 24 games, starting in seven of them, and averaged 8 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Not too shabby for a guy who’s been through the wringer with injuries, right?
Injuries: The Unwanted Guests
Man, injuries have been the dark cloud over Rose’s career. During his stint with the Grizzlies, knee and hamstring issues kept him off the court more than on it. Dude couldn’t even string together five consecutive games. Talk about frustrating!
Remember when he was the MVP with the Bulls? Those days seem like a lifetime ago. After tearing his ACL in the 2012 playoffs, it was a downhill battle. He missed the entire 2012-13 season and then tore his meniscus in 2013. And just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, he needed another surgery on the same knee in 2015. Seriously, can this guy catch a break?
Rose’s Rollercoaster Career
Through all the ups and downs, Rose has still managed to put up some solid numbers. Over 723 regular-season games, he’s averaged 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. Not bad for someone who’s practically lived in the rehab room. In my opinion, those stats show just how resilient he is.
Oh, and let’s not forget his season-high 19 points against the Rockets last December. He shot 50% from the field and nailed four free throws. For a brief moment, it felt like vintage D-Rose was back on the court.
The Athletic earlier reported that Memphis is waiving Rose. League sources confirm that development, as it’s technically accurate. But the fact that the Grizzlies let Rose out of his deal is an important distinction.

What’s Next for D-Rose?
Back in April, Rose told Damichael Cole from the Memphis Commercial Appeal that he was planning to return for a 17th NBA season. He even chatted with the Grizzlies’ GM and coach about it. “Yes, I’m coming back,” Rose said. “This summer, it’s all about attacking my rehabs, my workouts and continuing to be disciplined.”
But now? Who knows where he’ll end up next. Maybe a team looking for a veteran presence off the bench? Or perhaps he’s eyeing a new chapter altogether. Speaking of trades, did you catch that wild Curry rumor?
So, what do you think? Is Derrick Rose done, or does he have one more comeback left in him? Let’s hear your thoughts!
