Dirk Nowitzki Advises Luka Doncic After NBA Finals Loss

Luka Doncic fell short in his quest for a first NBA championship last season, as the Dallas Mavericks lost the series, 4-1, to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Dirk Nowitzki’s Advice:

During a recent appearance on the “DLLS Mavs” podcast, Dirk Nowitzki shared some advice for his fellow European standout, urging him to remain patient in his pursuit of success. “Well just keep doing what he’s doing, honestly,” Nowitzki said. “Do your game. Play your game. I know it wasn’t the ending you were hoping for, but you know what? You’re just getting started, you’re 25-years-old. It’s good sometimes to get a little disappointment, to try again, to motivate you and push you to work harder and become an even better player if that’s even possible … He’s an incredible player, he’s playing at the highest level. He’s an MVP-type caliber every year. Staying healthy, take care of your body. It’s gonna be another long year.”

Mavericks’ Strategy and Roster Moves:

Nowtizki understands what it takes to win an NBA championship with the Mavericks since he led them there in 2011. Doncic has clearly embraced being the next star European talent for Dallas, and they’ve rewarded him by improving his supporting cast consistently.

This summer was no different; they acquired Klay Thompson in free agency which drastically enhanced floor-spacing around Doncic and Irving.

Fans believe that with these changes and improvements, Luka can lead them far this season!

Looking Ahead:

Doncic will likely use Jayson Tatum’s journey as motivation. Tatum faced defeat in his first trip to the NBA Finals back in 2022 but came back two years later to secure his first championship.

If Doncic stays healthy and keeps improving while avoiding serious injuries within their roster – there’s hope! The Mavericks can still contend for a title though contending doesn’t always mean winning.

Still with someone like Luka leading them – a championship seems within reach!
