Damian Lillard, a Milwaukee Bucks player, just made history. He’s the first to record at least 40 points, 10 assists, and five 3-pointers in a single game. This happened during Saturday’s 141-135 victory over the Detroit Pistons. This is Lillard’s second 40-point game in a Bucks uniform.

At 33, Lillard ended the game with a season-high 45 points. He also had six rebounds, 11 assists, and one steal in 37 minutes of play. The seven-time All-Star shot 12-of-22 (54.5%) from the floor and 5-of-11 (45.5%) beyond the arc. Plus, he didn’t miss a single free throw, making all 11.

NBA betting sites are buzzing. The Bucks are currently third-shortest odds to win this season’s championship. Only the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets have better odds according to sportsbooks.

Lillard was on fire. “I had a good warmup, and I got a couple shots to go in, so I felt good,” he said. He knew the importance of the game and played strategically, moving the ball when necessary and attacking when the opportunity arose.

The Bucks took a 70-67 halftime lead with Lillard’s 31-footer at the buzzer. The 12-year veteran scored 17 points and seven assists. Milwaukee then outscored the Pistons 58-40 in the paint on 47-of-85 (55.3%) shooting from the field.

Bucks coach Adrian Griffin was all praises for Lillard. “Dame was so great tonight, and he was competing on both sides of the ball,” Griffin said. He was surprised to learn Lillard had scored 45 points, attributing it to Lillard’s rhythm on the court.

Giannis Antetokounmpo also had a good game, adding 31 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. However, the two-time MVP missed half of his 22 free throw attempts. Brook Lopez also contributed 19 points for the Bucks.

Griffin highlighted Giannis’s contribution too. “Giannis was big on both ends,” he said. He appreciated Giannis’s aggression with the ball and his ability to get to the rim. Griffin believes Giannis’s ability to draw fouls is invaluable to the team.

So far this season, Lillard has started 39 games. He’s averaging 25.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 35.2 minutes per game. His shooting stats are also impressive: 42.8% from the floor, 35.3% from 3-point range, and 91.9% at the line.

The seven-time All-NBA member is currently 18th in the league in points (949) this season. He’s 14th in assists (257), 17th in 3-pointers (114), and fourth in free throws (273).

NBA sportsbooks are favoring Damian Lillard for NBA Clutch Player of the Year. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Stephen Curry are also in the running, but Lillard is the clear favorite.
