Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, finally had his collegiate debut. This was almost five months after a scary cardiac arrest episode during a summer workout. It was a Sunday, and he was playing for the University of Southern California. His coach, Andy Enfield, had him on a minute restriction, so he came off the bench.

Bronny scored 4 points, got 3 rebounds, handed out 2 assists, stole the ball twice, and earned a block. All this in just 16 minutes of play. But it wasn’t enough. The Trojans lost 84-70 in an overtime exhibition against Long Beach State.

His debut was a big deal. The crowd was sold out, and the student section was packed. Most of the fans were wearing either LeBron’s Lakers or Cavaliers jerseys, or his son’s USC Trojans’ new uniform.

LeBron, fresh from winning the inaugural In-Season Tournament with the Lakers, rushed back to California. He wanted to be there for Bronny’s first game. He was there with his wife Gloria and daughter Zhuri.

After the game, Bronny spoke to the press. He was grateful. He thanked the Mayo Clinic for their help, and his family for their support during a tough time in his life. He also thanked his coach and teammates for sticking with him.

Jeff Goodman, an analyst for the Field of 68, had a lot to say about Bronny. He’s been following Bronny’s journey for a while. He said Bronny looked like he belonged in his debut. He reminded everyone that Bronny had a cardiac arrest and wasn’t sure he would play again. He missed the first eight games and a lot of the preseason, but he looked like he belonged. And he’s only going to get better.

LeBron was emotional after the game. He posted a message expressing how proud he was of his eldest son. He’s Bronny’s biggest fan. He even told his team he would miss a game if it clashed with his son’s first collegiate match.

He won the In-Season Tournament on Saturday and travelled back from Las Vegas just in time for Bronny’s game. He posted on social media, saying he was drained and emotional. He praised Bronny, saying he was incredible. He also mentioned that Bronny had already won the ultimate goal/championship, which is life.

The Trojans will play next against the Louisville Cardinals on December 27.
