‣ Embiid, who had returned from a two-match absence due to illness, also posted 7 assists and 6 turnovers, and was praised by his teammates for his performance.

Joel Embiid made headlines this Wednesday night. He scored his sixth career 50-point game, which was also his highest for this season.

The reigning league MVP didn’t stop there. He also added 13 rebounds to his stat line, helping the Sixers to a 131 to 126 victory over the Wizards.

But Embiid was still 9 points shy of his career-best 59. That record was set over a year ago against the Utah Jazz. On this night, Joel hit 19 of 24 from the field, scored a three-pointer, and made 11 of 13 free throws.

Embiid, the 76ers center, had just returned from a two-match absence due to illness. He also posted 7 assists and 6 turnovers. “Sometimes your team needs you to be a playmaker, sometimes they need you to score…,” Embiid said. He felt it was one of those nights where he had to be aggressive.

Tyrese Maxey, Embiid’s teammate, also had a good game with 26 points and 7 assists. Maxey joked about Embiid’s performance, saying, “He should have had 60.”

De’Anthony Melton, another teammate, admired how effortlessly Embiid played. “It was quite 50,” Melton said. “He was just going out there effortlessly shooting the ball and scoring.”

Even though Embiid was assessed a technical for protesting a traveling call, the Sixers ended the quarter on a 10-0 run. Melton praised Embiid, saying, “He’s our safety valve – offensively, defensively. That’s why he’s the MVP.”

Meanwhile, the Wizards had their own standout player. Jordan Poole led the squad with 23 points, but couldn’t prevent the team’s 17th loss of the season.

In other news, Kelly Oubre Jr. made his return to the NBA courts. He had been out for almost a month after being struck by a car. Oubre Jr. scored 12 points during his 19 minutes of play after missing 11 games.

Head coach Nick Nurse expressed his concern for Oubre Jr. He was worried about how he would perform in the second half, but was pleasantly surprised. “I thought he was kind of the spark with a bunch of stuff, so really happy,” Nurse said.

Oubre Jr. had been dealing with speculation about his injury. He didn’t pay much attention to the rumors, saying, “This was and is a very traumatic situation for me and my family… I just wish that my life wasn’t like ‘The Truman Show’ where everybody kind of watched it and have their own opinion about my life.”
